How it all began... The Incredible Tapestry is created when AA's Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions & Twelve Concepts are woven together to guide each AA member to learn to live "in the greatest peace, partnership and brotherhood with all men and women." The outline for a weekly study group was developed over an eighteen-year period (1989-2007) from the learned experiences of an AA Concepts/Traditions Study Group in Eastern Massachusetts, Living Our Traditions. The original study group met three of four times each month. There was never any rigid timetable to complete a particular section of the study. It's not uncommon for the study of a specific Tradition or Concept to continue for two months. One year, three months were spent on Tradition Five. There is flexibility to adapt to any time frame. If study meetings are held weekly, and sufficient time allowed for all to share, it generally takes a full year to complete the outline. The concept for The Incredible Tapestry workshops evolved from weekly phone visits with one of my dearest mentors, Frank M, who served as AA’s archivist at the General Service Office in NY. We would discuss things I learned at my home group, Living Our Traditions, a Concepts, Traditions, Steps Study Group (thus the “36” of the 36 spiritual principles). Our meetings are never dull or boring, we laugh a lot, & we cherish AA’s 36 principles. Inevitably, the Tapestry is about personal inventory & continued spiritual development. Living Our Tradition AA Group sincerely hopes you enjoy this journey as much as we do. Annemarie M., the Incredible Tapestry Chairperson The following links will bring you to a few of of the topics and presentations offered in previous Tapestry events. Eventually, we hope to post all presentations. The first The Incredible Tapestry workshop was included as part of the Maryland State Convention. Then, in November 2001, a two-hour version was part of the Massachusetts State Convention program. Between 2002 and 2004, several Tapestry workshops were facilitated during local District events. Weekend Tapestry workshops have been held in December 2005 (Taunton MA), June 2006 (Maine) and August 2006 (Taunton MA). The next The Incredible Tapestry weekend is scheduled for August 17, 18 & 19, 2007 in Taunton, MA.
The sharing within presentations is the individual's learned experience. We ask that you accept the information in the same manner you would during any AA meeting - as personal sharing and with respect for viewpoints that may not match your own.
These pages are ongoing works-in-progress.
